Cerro Negro volcano - volcano boarding
Experience fun sand boarding on the slope of an active volcano!
It is a half a day tour; we arrive cerro negro with private transportation, climb the volcano with our boards and than to the best part- sliding down the slope with the board.

Telica volcano - trekking
Your best chance to see lava in Central America!
It is a two days trek (optional also as 1 day trek); we start at the hot springs of San Jacinto, than climb the "Los Maribios" range for a wonderful view over the volcanoes around. We camp below the active crater and after dinner will climb to the crater at night to look for the lava inside the crater. In the next days we will wake up to see the sunrise over the volcano, and after breakfast go back to catch the bus to Leon.

Quetzal watching & Rainforest tour

It is a 2 days tour in the cloud & mountain rainforests of northern Nicaragua. The tour combines wildlife watching and rainforest ecology. We will look for the most attractive species of this forest: Resplendent Quetzal, Keel-billed Toucan, Emerald Toucanet and Mantled Howler Monkeys among others. We will walk through beautiful preserved rainforest and the guide will explain about the ecology of this special ecosystem.

Crossing the mangrove swamps of Isla Juan Venado

It is a half a day tour; we walk a short distance from Las Pe×Ħitas community to the mangrove swamps and than go into the swamp. We will see the different mangrove species and learn about their ecology and special physiological adaptations, and probably will see some of the characteristic wildlife of the mangroves: mainly birds, mangrove crabs and fiddler crabs.

Las Brisas cloud forest & Golondrina waterfall
ONLY AT SONATI! Beautiful trek at pine & oak forest and cool waterfall swimming.
It is a two days trek; in the first day we will walk in pines & oaks forest with great view over the Quiabuc Las Brisas reserve and the city of Esteli. In the second day we will go down to the river below for swimming in the cool water below golondrina waterfall, at the afternoon we will take the bus back to Leon.

Cerro Negro volcano - trekking
Climb into the crater of the most active volcano around Leon!
It is a half a day trek; we will climb into the crater of the volcano, see the fumaroles, climb to the summit and than go down its steep sandy slopes.
Cost: US$ 20-23 (depends upon number of participants).
San Cristobal volcano
Climb the highest volcano in Nicaragua.
It is a two days trek; in the first day we have a relatively easy walk to the base of the volcano. In the second day we climb the steep slope to the top for beautiful views of the surroundings, than go down and walk back to take the bus back to Leon.

Las Pilas & El Hoyo volcanoes and Asososca lagoon - trekking
Climb two volcanoes and swim volcanic lagoon.
It is a two days trek; we start by walking below Cerro Negro, than climb to the summit of Las Pilas volcano, where we have a chance to see the White-faced Capuchin monkeys. We camp below the "hole" at the El Hoyo volcano, overlooking Managua lake and Momotombo volcano. In the following day we go down to Asososca lagoon, where we will have a cool swim before going back to Leon.

Cosiguina volcano
Beautiful panorama over Nicaragua, Honduras & El Salvador.
It is a two days trek; in the first day we climb the volcano and camp below the crater. From the crater edge we have beautiful views over Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Fonseca gulf, Padre Ramos wetlands, and of course- the volcanic lagoon inside the crater. On the way back we will take a bath at a natural spring, just before taking the bus back to Leon.

Common birds around Leon.
In this half day tour we will look for either the common tropical dry forest or the aquatic birds around Leon. We are probable to encounter species like: Roseate Spoonbill, herons, parakeets, hummingbirds, Black-headed Trogon, Turquoise-browed Motmot, Tyrant-flycatchers, Rufous-napped and Banded Wrens, White-throated Magpie-Jay, Oriole species, among others. Binoculars and telescope can be supplied for the participants.

Specialist birds of northern Nicaragua.
This tour can last either 1 or 2 days, depends on the specific program. We will look for the specialist birds of northern Nicaragua- either those of the
tropical dry forest (species like White-browed Wren, Fan-tailed Warbler, Elegant Trogon, Long-tailed Manakin, among others); of the
pine-oak forests (species like White-breasted Hawk, Grace's Warbler, Flame-colored Tanager, Black-headed Siskin, among others); or of the
mountain rain forest (species like Green-breasted Mountain-Gem, Resplendent Quetzal, Keel-billed Toucan, Slate-colored Solitaire, among others). Binoculars and telescope can be supplied for the participants.

We visit churches, museums and other sites at Sutiaba- the former indian village, and at the center of colonial Leon. During the tour we will learn about the different life styles, architecture, culture and about myths and legends in the city.

Dicatatorship, resistence & revolution in Leon.
We visit the places where the main events occurred in Leon- the house where the dictator Anastasio Somoza was assassinated, the street corner where revolutionary students were massacred and the prison which was the nightmare for the people of Leon... In the end of the tour we will understand why the people of Leon are proud to call Leon "the capital of the revolution".
