Be part of the environmental change in Nicaragua! You can get involved and help us carry out FREE environmental education activities in many different ways:
Where does donation money go? 100% of donations directly finance the following:
Festival of the tropical dry forest in Leon (about $5,000 annually).
Recycling projects (about $2,000 annually).
Establishment of new SONATI sites: we plan to open our next sites in Nicaragua at Matagalpa, Esteli and Managua. Establishing cost for each site: $50,000.
What do we finance ourselves? At SONATI we work as hard as we can to be as self-sustaining as possible. Thanks to our hostel and tours, we can finance the following:
Free environmental education activities for thousands of local school children.
All SONATI administrative costs (including staff salaries).
Spread the environmental message
You can affect the environment in Nicaragua and Latin America even in your own country or while traveling in these countries. Responsible consuming of environmental-related products can make a big difference! Please consider following the recommendations below, and try to spread this message among your family and friends:
Don't buy wild animals: Buying wild animals as pets is extremely traumatic for the animals as well as detrimental for the environment. Most of the animals are smuggled illegally from tropical countries; the majority of them die during transport.
Don't buy handicrafts made from animals.

Equipment
We are always in urgent need of outdoor and educative equipment (binoculars, field books, camping and trekking equipment, laptops, projectors, etc.). If you have unneeded equipment looking for a home it would be a huge help to us!
Open new SONATI sites
The idea of SONATI is to establish sustainable environmental education projects in as many sites as possible, in order to empower future generations with the necessary knowledge and tools to make a better environment in our world.
Idealistic, environmentally oriented, independent, creative and good people are welcome to contact us! Candidates should spend a few months at an already existing SONATI site, to learn how it all operates before opening new sites.
